Article 4 directions allow us to require planning permission for certain developments in Aldershot and Farnborough that would not otherwise need it.

About Article 4 directions

Although planning permission is normally needed to change the use of a building or land, some changes of use and building works do not require planning permission.

These forms of development are called permitted development. You can find more details about permitted development on our Do I need planning permission? page and on the Permitted development rights page on the Planning Portal.

Councils can use Article 4 directions to remove permitted development rights.
