We are aware of renewed discussions in our community about the Home Office's plans to use an apartment block in Farnborough as temporary accommodation for people seeking asylum in the UK. Here is a statement from the council setting out our position to this latest news.

The council has been notified by the Home Office that following a pause, it is now intending to proceed with its plans to use an apartment block in Farnborough as temporary accommodation for people seeking asylum in the UK.

Along with the police, health and county council, we have met with the Home Office and the site contractor, Clearsprings Ready Homes, to be able to understand more fully their proposals and any implications there may be. We will continue to seek regular meetings and clarification on the Home Office’s plans.

The Leader of the Council, Councillor Gareth Williams, has also written to the Home Secretary reiterating the council's objection to the proposals, which were paused in February.

Residents who have queries about the proposals can contact the Home Office by email at public.enquiries@homeoffice.gov.uk or phone to 020 7035 4848.
