If you have left care and are aged between 18 and 25, you may be able to get a reduction on your council tax bill.
If you qualify, the reduction in your council tax bill can be up to 100%.
How to qualify
You must meet all the following criteria:
- Have left care and you are aged between 18 and 25.
- Have been in the care of Hampshire County Council for at least 13 weeks from the age of 14
- Were in care on your 16th birthday
- Are liable for council tax or a share of council tax on a home in Rushmoor
If this applies to you, you still need to apply for any other reduction to which you are entitled to such as:
We will top up your entitlement with a care leaver discount, so you will not have to pay council tax until you reach your 25th birthday.
Award criteria
- If you are solely liable to pay council tax, you will be awarded 100% relief on the amount of council tax you have to pay, after all other council tax discounts and exemptions have been applied
- If you are a care leaver and are jointly liable for council tax, a proportionate award will be made according to your individual circumstances
- If you are a care leaver and not liable for council tax, we will award no discount
Our discount only applies to you if you have left care from Hampshire County Council and are living in Aldershot or Farnborough.
The discount is only for council tax due after 1 April 2024. You will still need to pay any council tax you owe from before then.

Please complete our care leaver council tax discount form and email or post it to us.
Your support worker or another approved person must complete part 3 of the form.
