Half term fun in the sun is on offer from this Saturday (May 25) when Aldershot Lido throws open its doors for an action-packed opening day of swimming and celebrations.

Bookings are now open for our summer season, and the weather forecast is looking promising for opening day on Saturday, when a variety of young musicians, a DJ and the ever-popular kayak taster sessions will entertain visitors, thanks to The Friends of Aldershot Lido (FOAL).

The opening day line-up will begin with a DJ playing music during the morning, followed by Fleet Phoenix young musicians playing sets from 12.30 to 1.30pm and between 2.30pm and 3pm.

Elayna Martin and the Yacht Club Four will play New Orleans style jazz from 1.30pm to 2.30pm, and between 3pm and 4pm, while on the water, the Blackwater Valley Canoe Club will be running the always-popular kayaking taster sessions in the deep end of the Lido in half-hour sessions, from 12.30 – 1pm, 1.30pm – 2pm, 2.30pm - 3pm; 3.30 – 4pm. Booking is highly recommended as it is going to be a busy day!

Paul Kelly, General Manager of Aldershot Lido, said: “We are looking forward to the new season and welcoming our regular customers and new visitors to our gem of a Lido.

“As always, we have been busy improving our facilities such as replacing a filter, repainting the changing rooms, sprucing up the flumes and painting and refilling the pool, so we are now ready for the season ahead!

“We recommend booking online, which works out cheaper for visitors, as we are expecting a busy opening week.”

Councillor Becky Williams, Cabinet Member for Neighbourhood Services at Rushmoor Borough Council, said: “We are proud of our Lido, and we are delighted to reopen it for the summer season so that more families and visitors can have a wonderful day out and make valuable memories.”

With the weather warming up, and (hopefully) a long summer ahead of us, Aldershot Lido is the perfect place for some early morning swimming, or an ideal spot to cool down and chill out on a warm day.

Following half term, the lido will be open weekends in June and every day throughout July and August.

And this season, following our very successful first Fido in the Lido dog day last year, there will be double the opportunities for dogs and their owners to make the most of the cooling waters when our dog sessions return on Saturday 7 and Sunday 8 September.  Make sure you book early to get a ticket for you and your faithful friends!

Aldershot Lido boasts three water flumes, a diving platform and a toddler paddling pool and sandpit, as well as nine acres of grounds, a basketball area, and hot and cold food to provide everything you need for a day of making precious family memories.

The history of the lido is also now on display on four new information boards celebrating its heritage.
