What to do if you find a dead animal in a public area.
If you find a dead animal in a public area, such as on a road or in a park, please tell us about it.
Report a dead animal
You can report a dead animal using our Love Rushmoor website:
Domestic pet
If you report a domestic pet, such as a cat or dog, we aim to collect it within one hour of you reporting it to us, during office hours.
Wild animals
If you report a wild animal or bird, we aim to collect it within 24 hours of your reporting it to us, during office hours.
What we do with the animal
We will scan dead pets, such as cats and dogs, for a micro-chip and make contact with the owner if possible. We will store dead pets at our depot for a short time - usually about a week - to give owners the chance to collect it, if they want. If an animal is not claimed, we will arrange for it to be cremated.
Dead animals on high speed roads
We will remove dead animals from high speed roads when it is safe. This will usually be when the road is coned-off for regular maintenance. We will liaise with the highway authority and police if there are dead animals that are blocking the carriageway.
Love Rushmoor mobile app
As well as our Love Rushmoor website, we have a mobile app that allows you to report environmental problems while out and about. Visit our Love Rushmoor page for more information and to find out how to download it.
