Aldershot’s Victoria Day will be making a splash in Aldershot town centre on Saturday 7 June.
Organised by Rushmoor Borough Council, this year’s theme for the day is ‘wonderful water’ and everyone is being invited to get involved and have some sea-rious fun!
Promising a packed day of summer fun from 10am until 4pm, there will be stalls and entertainment all around the town centre, with lots of free activities to enjoy.
The colourful carnival parade will be back featuring spectacular costumes and puppets in keeping with the watery theme. Aldershot’s very own Queen Victoria, Betty Bryce will be leading the procession of over 1,000 local people setting off from the Princes Hall at 11am and ending at the High Street multi-storey car park.
Visitors can head to Princes Gardens to enjoy live music, dance, workshops and more at the bandstand throughout the day as well as some hands-on fishy themed craft activities and fair rides (for a small charge). There will be performances by the YEM Theatre School Choir, St Peters Junior School Choir and Kala the Arts to name just a few. Also look out for a samba band battle in the community bandstand just after midday and all the Victoria Day awards being presented just after 1pm.
There will also be a circus skills area and aerial performers alongside Princes Gardens Surgery and a small classic car display in Princes Way from 12.30pm.
Over in Union Street, visitors can look out for the watery stilt walkers, puppet performers, the Giant Bubble Man, a quiet storytelling area, a face painter, Lego building and lots more live music.
Carrying on the watery theme, visitors can look out for The Lifeguards and The Cheeky Bathers who will be exploring the town centre and interacting with visitors.
Councillor Sophie Porter, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Healthy Communities and Active Lives at Rushmoor Borough Council said: “Victoria Day is always such a special day for Aldershot, and everyone can look forward to a fantastic day of live music, entertainment, and family activities that brings the whole community together. The carnival parade at 11am is not to be missed and a real show of community spirit, so I hope you will join us to cheer everyone one.”
Volunteers from the Aldershot Community Together group will be getting involved on the day and helping with activities and as parade marshals. Anyone who would like to get involved can email towncentreevents@rushmoor.gov.uk.
Victoria Day has been made possible thanks to sponsorship from Wellesley, Group 1 Farnborough Mini, Enterprise, FPL Signs, Farnborough International, Farnborough College of Technology, Farnborough Airport and toob.
