Refurbished public park tennis courts in Aldershot and Farnborough can now be booked online to make sure players secure the court and time of their choosing!
In total, eight tennis courts were fully renovated last year, at Manor Park, Aldershot, Rectory Road, Farnborough, and Cove Green, with an investment of over £200,000, providing high quality public tennis facilities for the local community.
The courts remain free to use and are now available to book online via the Lawn Tennis Association website: www.lta.org.uk/play The booking system makes it easier to view court availability and to book a court at a time to suit, knowing the court will be reserved and available for use.
Places Leisure, which operates the Aldershot Pools and Lido and Alpine Snowsports Centre on behalf of Rushmoor Borough Council, is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the courts.
The refurbishment project is part of a nationwide investment by the government and the Lawn Tennis Association Tennis Foundation, delivered by the LTA, to refurbish public tennis courts across the country, and promote the sport to more people. This investment will see thousands of existing park tennis courts in poor or unplayable condition brought back to life for the benefit of communities through renovation works, and improved court accessibility with new gate-access technology and booking systems.
Park tennis courts are vital in providing opportunities for children and adults to get active.
Alongside the investment, the council and Places Leisure will also work with the LTA to develop a range of activities on the tennis courts.
Rushmoor Borough Council Deputy Leader, Councillor Sophie Porter, Cabinet member for healthy communities and active lives, said:
“Promoting physical and mental health and wellbeing is a priority of the council, and the refurbishment of the borough’s tennis courts will certainly help encourage people to take part in the sport.
“Even with the significant investment in the courts, we are keen to make sure they are still available for residents to use free of charge, and I am delighted that these top-quality facilities are now available to book in advance.
“We’re grateful to both Places Leisure and the LTA for working with us to deliver this project.”
Scott Lloyd, LTA Chief Executive, said:
“We’re delighted to see park tennis courts across Rushmoor officially re-open to the public, and in better shape than ever.
“Park tennis courts are vital for providing people with opportunities to pick up a racket, and we want as many people as possible, of all ages, abilities and backgrounds, to enjoy playing tennis and being active. Thanks to this investment the sport will be open to more players, for years to come.”
