The brand new Rushmoor beacon was installed in Manor Park, Aldershot, earlier today (16 April) in the spring sunshine.

The beacon, which will be officially lit for the first time at the VE Day commemorations in the park on 8 May, is four metres tall, with a one metre brazier at the top. It sits on a concrete base, protected by railings and features the Rushmoor crest.

The beacon is an important new symbol of unity for the local community, as well as acknowledging Aldershot and Farnborough's military and aviation heritage, and will serve as a focus for residents to come together on special occasions for many years to come.

The crossed swords symbolises the borough’s close ties with the Army, while the astral crown and key represent the aviation and technological heritage in Farnborough. The beacon also features the Hampshire county rose.

The beacon has been funded by a grant from the government’s Community Recovery Fund, and is sited towards the top of Manor Park, close to The Manor House, and will also be used for civic events.
