Day and time: Friday 15 August - from 8.15pm, with the lighting of the beacon at 9.15pm
Location: Manor Park, Aldershot
Cost: Free
Join us to mark the 80th anniversary of VJ Day (Victory over Japan Day) and the end of the Second World War at our beacon lighting.
We are hosting this free open-air community event in Manor Park, Aldershot.
In the lead up to the beacon lighting, there will be music with a Vera Lynn tribute act, a short talk from local historian Paul Vickers, other readings and memories of the forgotten army, and a parade of veterans associations and uniformed youth groups and cadets to the beacon.
We will light our beacon at 9.15pm to symbolise the "light of peace" that emerged from the darkness of war.
Please bring a torch as it will be dark at the close of the event.
Visit the VJ Day website for more information about the commemorations happening across the country.
Disabled parking
We have a very small number of disabled parking spaces available. If you need a space, please let us know by Monday 11 August. Email mayor@rushmoor.gov.uk and we will do our best to help.
