Find out how to dispose of asbestos safely.

Many people worry about asbestos, but asbestos in good condition is not usually a problem. But take care that you don't damage the asbestos, and release fibres, as this could seriously damage your health.

Where to dispose of asbestos in Hampshire

If you have a small quantity of cement bonded asbestos sheets (CBA) - no more than 15 sheets of approximate size 120cm x 60cm - you can take it to one of five Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRC) in Hampshire.

Hampshire County Council started charging to dispose of this waste from 1 October 2016. For up-to-date charges, please contact Hampshire County Council on 0300 555 1389.

These HWRCs are specially licensed to receive this type of hazardous waste. But they don't accept other types of asbestos.

CBA must be wrapped in plastic sheeting (or small pieces double-bagged) and sealed with tape to avoid the release of asbestos fibres.

Please call the centre in advance to check they have the space to store the asbestos. If you don't, you could be turned away.

Household Waste Recycling Centres that accept asbestos

For larger amounts, or other types of asbestos, contact an asbestos removal expert.

Find a company to remove asbestos at Trading Standards Buy with Confidence Approved Trader scheme or the HSE website for the national database of licence holders, searchable by town and/or county.

If a contractor is carrying out work on your property it is their responsibility to dispose of the asbestos.

Alternatively you can contact Hampshire County Council's waste management team on 0300 555 1389, or email .
