Victoria Day will be back on Saturday 6 June for a day of free family fun in Aldershot town centre.

Organised by the Rushmoor Borough Council, this year’s theme for the day is ‘folklore and fairytales’ and visitors can expect a magical day filled with storybook surprises from around the world.

Promising a packed day of summer fun from 10am until 4pm, there will be free family activities and over 60 craft and community stalls to browse; plus, live music performances across two stages and world street food.

The highlight of the day will be the carnival parade, which is a celebration of the community, featuring colourful costumes and story-inspired characters. Aldershot’s very own Queen Victoria, Betty Bryce will be leading the procession of over 1,000 local people setting off from the Princes Hall at 11am and ending at the High Street Multi-storey car park.

Visitors can head to Princes Gardens to enjoy live music, dance and more at the bandstand throughout the day as well as hands-on craft activities and fair rides (for a small charge). There will be performances by YEM Theatre School Choir, St Peters Junior School Choir, Cactus Brass and the Rushmoor Samba Band to name just a few.

Carrying on the folklore theme, visitors can encounter a fire breathing dragon, marvel at a bubble wizard, watch mythical street performers, build their own Lego monster and get creative with face painting.

Budding acrobats and jugglers are invited to enter the Steamship Circus zone to try out their circus skills. Visitors can also write a message to their future selves at the Post Office of Possibilities and step into the Shed of Stories for interactive story sessions.

Councillor Sophie Porter, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Healthy Communities and Active Lives at Rushmoor Borough Council said: “Victoria Day is back and it gets bigger and better every year! It’s one of the highlights of Aldershot’s calendar, bringing together residents, community groups, families and visitors for a fantastic day of celebration and town pride. The carnival parade at 11am is always a real showcase of community spirit. I hope everyone will come along and cheer on those taking part and enjoy everything the day has to offer. Let’s hope the sun shines.”

Victoria Day has been made possible thanks to sponsorship from FPL Signs, Farnborough College of Technology, toob, University Centre – Farnborough, Prospect. and Saint Removals as well as funding from the government.
