Lost and found dogs

Information about our lost dog service, stray dogs and dogs needing new homes.

Lost and found dogs

If you lose or find a dog:

  • Between Monday to Thursday, 9am to 5pm, or Friday, 9am to 4.30pm, please call our dog line using the contact details on this page
  • Outside these hours (including Bank Holidays), please call our customer services number on this page

We will ask you for a full description of the dog, and details of where and when you lost or found it.

Stray dogs

If you're a dog owner, it's your responsibility to make sure your dog does not stray.

How we deal with stray dogs

We aim to return the dog to its owner as soon as possible. In most cases, this will be the next working day.

If we receive, or find a stray dog at a weekend, we will return it on Monday morning, or for Bank Holidays, the next working day.

We will take the dog to our kennels if we cannot identify the owner.

You have up to seven working days to claim your pet.

Fees for the return of your dog

Before we can return your dog, you will have to pay a fixed fee of £25 a dog.

You will also have to pay kennel costs of £35 for one to two days and £21 for each additional day after that.

If you do not claim your dog

If you do not claim your dog within seven working days, we will re-home it or pass it to a rescue organisation.

We make every effort to find new homes for unclaimed strays, whatever their age and only put an animal to sleep on our vet's advice.
