Tickets are now live for everyone to join the celebrations at Armed Forces Day National Event weekend in Aldershot and Farnborough on Saturday 27 and Sunday 28 June.
Residents are invited to request up to nine free tickets for the prestigious national event, which will celebrate over 170 years of military heritage through displays, activities and ceremonial traditions that connect visitors with Aldershot and Farnborough’s military past - Aldershot as the traditional home of the British Army and Farnborough as the birthplace of British military aviation.
Tickets are free but must be booked in advance to gain entry into the site on Queens Avenue in Aldershot. Anyone arriving without tickets will not be allowed in. Photo ID will also be required. Security checks will be in place throughout the event, and ID checks will be carried out on entry to make sure the details match the ticket allocated.
A full programme line-up will be announced soon, with a schools day on Friday 26 June for invited local school children, the Armed Forces Day National Event on Saturday 27 June, featuring a military parade, Arena displays, and music, and a Community Day on Sunday 28 June, in which residents can enjoy community activities, sport taster sessions and competitions, as well as live music and performances.
Rushmoor Borough Council Deputy Leader, Councillor Sophie Porter, said: “We are incredibly proud to bring this unique tribute to the Armed Forces, past, present and future, to Aldershot and Farnborough.
“We are bringing Armed Forces Day home. This is a wonderful opportunity to bring the communities of Aldershot and Farnborough together with the military community in celebration and appreciation, through fantastic free activities, sports and entertainment. It is a chance for us all to thank our Armed Forces for the vital role they play in protecting the nation.”
Service personnel from the Royal Navy, Royal Marines, Army, and Royal Air Force will be showcasing the diverse mix of roles in the Armed Forces, demonstrating equipment, and highlighting their contribution to national security. Visitors will be able to meet serving personnel, reservists, veterans, cadets, and military families during the weekend, which will include live military bands, parades and flypasts.
The programme of activities will also look to the future by inspiring young people through displays, activities, sports, and family events.
Armed Forces Day (27 June) provides a national opportunity to show support and gratitude to the Armed Forces community - serving personnel, veterans, reservists, cadets, and their families, and highlights the military’s contribution to national security, the economy and society in keeping Britain secure.
Rushmoor Borough Council is proud to work with its sponsors; including QinetiQ, BAE Systems, Aspire Defence Limited and Farnborough Airport.
