A joint operation by Rushmoor Borough Council Public Protection Officers (PPOs) and Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs) took place in Aldershot town centre recently, providing a visible presence and engaging with local businesses about crime and anti-social behaviour concerns.
During the patrol, officers visited businesses to promote the forthcoming Business and Retail Crime Forum, encouraging participation from retailers and business owners who want to discuss issues affecting the town centre and help shape local responses.
The team also took proportionate enforcement and engagement action where appropriate. Two people were stopped while riding e-scooters. One rider was identified as a juvenile; relevant details were obtained, contact was made with a parent, and information was shared with Hampshire Constabulary. A referral was also submitted to Children’s Services due to concerns about parental knowledge and consent of the behaviour.
Officers also engaged with two individuals found consuming alcohol within the Public Spaces Protection Order area. The alcohol was disposed of at the time and both individuals were issued with anti-social behaviour warning slips.
Cllr Christine Guiness, Portfolio Holder for Pride in Place and Neighbourhood Services said:
“This operation provided a visible deterrent in Aldershot town centre, supported positive engagement with local businesses, and enabled officers to respond proportionately to offences and anti-social behaviour encountered during the patrol.”
Rushmoor Inspector Mike Hall said:
“I want to be clear – we do not tolerate anti-social behaviour and will continue to take all reports extremely seriously because we know the impact it has on our communities in Rushmoor. Our teams will continue to work alongside Rushmoor Borough Council and other partners to help address and reduce issues in our area. Please continue to report ASB when you see or experience it – every report you make helps us to take action.”
The Business and Retail Crime Forum will give local businesses an opportunity to raise concerns, share information and work with partners to help reduce crime and anti-social behaviour in the town centre.
