A new collaborative initiative to boost economic growth, skills development and investment, forged ahead at Farnborough International Airshow this week with the launch of a new investment prospectus and website.

The Aldershot and Farnborough Growth Partnership hosted a business breakfast on Wednesday (22 July) to connect key local businesses and to showcase the investment potential of Aldershot and Farnborough to airshow visitors.

The reception follows an initial meeting in February this year, convened by the Leader of Rushmoor Borough Council, Councillor Gareth Williams, and local MP Alex Baker, to bring business leaders from across Aldershot and Farnborough together to form a partnership aimed at boosting jobs and economic growth in the area.

The new investment prospectus and website set out the investment case for the area, outlining the strengths, opportunities and ambitions that make Aldershot and Farnborough premier locations for defence, aerospace, technology and innovation-led growth.

Longer-term, the partnership aims to provide more jobs and opportunities for local people and small businesses, enable residents to access high-quality employment opportunities and ultimately, use the increased prosperity that joint working will bring to revive Aldershot and Farnborough town centres.

Councillor Julie Hall, Cabinet Member for Economy, Skills and Regeneration at Rushmoor Borough Council said: “Aldershot and Farnborough is blessed with an array of world-class defence and aerospace businesses, as well as hundreds of large and small businesses that supply our Armed Forces, engineering and aviation businesses.

“Bringing influential people together in a partnership provides the opportunity to advertise our strengths, especially in technical innovation, so that we can generate more jobs and better opportunities for our residents.

“We are delighted that the business breakfast was a success, and we are also grateful to our community for accommodating the traffic disruption during the airshow.”

Alex Baker, MP for Aldershot and Farnborough added: “The airshow provided a powerful platform from which to launch the case for investment in our great towns; Aldershot, the home of the British Army and Farnborough, the birthplace of British aviation.

“Our mission is to create jobs and prosperity in our region and to connect local people to skills and training opportunities and, in so doing, to secure the defence and security of the UK”.
