I am incredibly proud that Aldershot and Farnborough will be hosting the Armed Forces Day National Event 2026.
Rushmoor Borough Council and I fought really hard to bring home this national event, because there really could be no better place to mark this national moment of thanks. Aldershot is the Home of the British Army, not just in our history but in the life of our town today. Farnborough, as the birthplace of British aviation, continues to play a vital role in defence, aerospace and national security.
Over the weekend, residents and visitors can look forward to a fantastic programme of military displays, flyovers, parachute jumps, marching bands, sport, music and family activities, alongside moments of national reflection and gratitude. At its heart, Armed Forces Day is about saying thank you to those who serve, those who have served, and the families who serve alongside them.
For our towns, this event is about more than one weekend. It is a chance to show the country who we are: towns shaped by service, sacrifice, invention and community spirit, and still making an important contribution to the defence and security of the UK.
I hope Armed Forces Day will bring people together, inspire our young people and leave a lasting legacy of pride and confidence in Aldershot and Farnborough. This is our chance to celebrate our proud past, our vital present, and our exciting future.
