Rushmoor Borough Council are holding a second Men’s Health Day on Saturday, 1 November in Aldershot – with loads of free, great activities.
Rushmoor Borough Council is back with their second Men’s Health Day on Saturday, 1 November in Aldershot – and promising loads of free, great activities!
The event, which follows a successful day in Farnborough earlier this year, runs from 11am to 3pm in The Wellington shopping centre and will feature over 20 organisations promoting various aspects of men's health as well as offering free drop-in health checks.
The event is all about supporting men’s physical and mental wellbeing. Whether they’re looking to get active, learn more about their health, or connect with local support services.
It’s a great opportunity to see what is on offer locally, including sports clubs and activities as well as lots of organisations offering expert advice and support. Topics include prostate cancer and bowel cancer awareness, weight management, help to stop smoking, and mental health and emotional wellbeing.
Men can have free health checks on the day and members of the Hampshire and Surrey Hills Men’s Choir will also be tunefully demonstrating the benefits of singing for health!
Rushmoor Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Housing & Planning, Councillor Keith Dibble, said: "It’s really important that all of us begin to take men’s health seriously. Events like this, which allow men to get themselves checked out and encourage them to get involved in physical activities are really important and give them a real opportunity to speak to lots of different health and fitness specialists all in one place. I know I will be dropping in to learn some things and pick up some tips.
"Hopefully for some men it will be an important starting point for them to change their lives around and begin making the right lifestyle choices.”
Rushmoor Borough Council’s Deputy Leader and Cabinet member for Healthy Communities and Active Lives, Councillor Sophie Porter, said: “The health and wellbeing of our residents remains one of our top priorities, so our aim is to build healthier and stronger communities by improving access and awareness of mental health support, increasing opportunities for physical exercise and addressing health inequalities. We have organised this event to raise awareness and to showcase the opportunities for physical and mental health for men in our borough.”
