Negotiations are under way between Rushmoor Borough Council and Affordable Housing Communities Ltd (AHC) to give a new lease of life to vacant land at the north of Farnborough town centre.

Subject to agreeing contracts and securing planning permission, the vision is for the government-backed housing provider to deliver a new shared-ownership development for older people on the site next to The Meads shopping centre.

Councillor Julie Hall, Cabinet member for Economy, Skills and Regeneration at Rushmoor Borough Council, said: “A lot of work is taking place behind the scenes to secure a sustainable new use for this key town centre site. In partnership with AHC we aim to transform the land into a new gateway that leads to the town centre.

Together, we hope to deliver up to 100 extra care apartments and a new vibrant community space that will be suitable for both local people and extra care residents. In addition, the new Landing town square which is already having a positive impact on the town centre, will be enhanced by further landscaping and improvements to surrounding publicly accessible spaces.”

AHC specialises in shared ownership and works closely with councils such as Rushmoor to provide new homes where they are needed most. As a registered social housing provider, AHC is committed to creating homes that are not only affordable, but also comfortable, sustainable, and part of thriving communities. These values complement Rushmoor Borough Council’s commitment to deliver quality living and affordable housing for all.

Further updates will be shared when the project progresses to the next stage of the development process.
