Popular Farnborough pub The Alexandra has joined our growing list of places with publicly available defibrillators.

The portable life saving devices are used to give the heart an electric shock to restart it, usually in a sudden cardiac arrest. Without immediate intervention like this, most cardiac arrests are fatal.

Thanks go to manager of The Alexandra, Kyla Cox, who has been a big help in agreeing this location for a new defibrillator.

Following an assessment of where all the publicly available defibrillators are in our borough we have been working with local organisations to identify specific locations in high need areas in Aldershot and Farnborough.

Working with the community first responders based at Farnborough Ambulance Station we have now installed a number of defibrillators locally, which are registered on a national website.

The website is used by all ambulance stations across the UK to help them to locate the nearest defibrillator when 999 is called, in response to a cardiac arrest. At a time when every minute matters, this information is critical to enable bystander defibrillation to start, before the ambulance crew arrive.
