Thirteen food businesses recently inspected by Rushmoor Borough Council’s environmental health officers (EHOs) have received the highest ‘5 – very good’ food hygiene ratings.

The council regularly inspects every food business in Aldershot and Farnborough according to a national risk rating scheme, which sets how often each business is inspected.

Each inspection results in a food hygiene rating from ‘zero – urgent improvement necessary’ to ‘5 – very good’, which the business can choose to display.

As well as celebrating those that score the maximum ratings, environmental health officers also support businesses that record lower hygiene ratings to consistently raise standards.

Currently 96% of Rushmoor’s food businesses currently have a rating of ‘3 – satisfactory’, ‘4 – good’ or ‘5 – very good’.

Only 4% are rated ‘2 – some improvement necessary’, ‘1 – major improvement necessary’ or ‘0 – urgent improvement necessary’.

One of those businesses that received a top rating was Super Wok in Peabody Road, Farnborough.

Manager Patrick Ou, said: “We are very pleased to receive our 5 rating following our last inspection which shows that we are getting our cleaning and hygiene right. I am grateful for the support given to us by the council’s food team to help us put good food safety systems in place. The 5 rating reassures our customers, and us, that we are getting it right.”

Rushmoor Borough Council’s Cabinet member for Neighbourhood Services (Pride in Place), Councillor Christine Guinness, said:

“Our environmental health officers inspect more than 400 food businesses a year in Aldershot and Farnborough to support high standards of food hygiene. I’m delighted that the vast majority of our local food businesses are considered broadly compliant.

“However, I recognise that some food businesses score less well. We are committed to supporting these businesses to improve standards to gain a better rating, like Mr Ou at Super Wok, who received support to secure his current 5 rating.

“There is no requirement for food businesses to display their green hygiene rating stickers in England, like there is in Wales – so I would always recommend our residents to check the rating of any food business online. This will also tell you when the business was actually inspected and the categories of risk rating scores.”

Rushmoor’s environmental health officers carried out 24 food hygiene inspections in April with the following food businesses the latest to receive ‘5-very good’ ratings and published on the Food Standards Agency’s (FSA) website
