Last week, the Cabinet received an update on the Farnborough leisure centre project and agreed its next steps.
The project will deliver two swimming pools (a 25m 6-lane main pool, 10m x 8m learner pool), 100+ station fitness suite including specialist power-assisted equipment for people who are less mobile or active, studio space including a dedicated spin studio, a café and active play for children.
The pre-planning public consultation events have been well attended, and the consultation runs through to Friday 25 July. Further information is available on our Farnborough leisure centre page.
The council has now concluded RIBA stage 2 (known as concept design). The next stage of the design is now under way in readiness for the submission of the planning application, and the council will be progressing the scheme with the remaining £18.5m from the Levelling Up grant.
The council intends to submit a planning application in September 2025. Subject to planning permission, it is aiming to award the construction contract in early 2026 and start work on site in spring 2026, with a scheduled opening of autumn 2027.
The Cabinet also agreed that special meetings of Cabinet and Council would be held as required during the project.
