We have written to the government confirming that we do not think there is a need to postpone the borough elections taking place in May 2026.

On 18 December 2025, the Minister of State for Local Government and Homelessness, Alison McGovern MP, wrote to council leaders in local government reorganisation areas with elections in May 2026. The minister  invited leaders to set our their views on the potential postponement of local elections in May, and whether doing this would allow them to better deliver local government reorganisation.

We have now officially responded to this letter and the Leader of Rushmoor Borough Council, Councillor Gareth Williams has confirmed that Rushmoor Borough Council does not believe that there is a need to postpone the borough elections taking place in May 2026.

You can read the full response that has been sent to the government on our record of executive decision.
