The owner of The House of Dosai in Victoria Road, Farnborough has accepted a caution from Rushmoor Borough Council for a number of food hygiene contraventions.

Following a customer complaint, an inspection of the business in August last year found dirty conditions, pest infestation and equipment in poor condition. The caution was issued to the sole Director on 15 January.

As a result of the inspection, the premises was voluntarily closed to address the immediate issues raised, and rated as a “Zero” (Urgent Improvement Necessary).

The business made substantial improvements and reopened on 18 August. Since then, council officers have worked with the business to support ongoing compliance, and the business now operates with a hygiene rating of “4” (Good).

Rushmoor Borough Council’s Cabinet member for Pride in Place/Neighbourhood Services, Councillor Christine Guinness, said:

“The council’s role in ensuring the safety of food for our residents is an absolute priority. We will always seek to support businesses in the borough, but I hope this case sends a clear message that where food businesses expose customers to risk, we will act swiftly and appropriately.

“I would urge every resident to check the hygiene of any food business before they buy.”

The council’s Environmental Health Service inspects over 400 food businesses in Aldershot and Farnborough every year, and each inspection results in a food hygiene rating from “Zero” (Urgent Improvement Necessary) to “5” (Very Good). The results are published on the Food Standards Agency’s (FSA) website
