How to become a candidate and stand in an election

To become a councillor, you need to stand as a candidate at an election for

  • A ward in Rushmoor
  • or for a Hampshire County Council county electoral division

Briefing for candidates and agents

We are running a briefing session for candidates and agents on Monday 9 March at 6.30pm in the Concorde Room at the Council Offices, Farnborough GU14 7JU. This session is for anyone standing for election or re-election and will explain how the election will be run in Rushmoor. 

Nomination packs

We will hand out the nomination packs at the briefing. The pack will include essential information about the polls and key documents to complete and return.

Please contact our elections team if you would like to attend the briefing and would like to collect a nomination pack.

Postal vote opening sessions

If you are a local candidate or election agent, you can attend the postal vote opening sessions. You can also choose up to 2 postal vote agents to observe.

If you or your representative(s) would like to observe the postal vote opening process, you need to give at least 48 hours' notice to our Returning Officer.

We will provide you with a form so you can appoint your postal voting agents.
