Reassuring you about how we perform cremations, in line with the code of cremation practice.
After the funeral service is complete, our dedicated crematorium team will check the name plate and place an identity card with your loved one, making sure it stays with them throughout the entire process.
Our cremations usually take place on the same day as the service. If that’s not possible, it will happen within 24 hours, always with the utmost respect.
Each cremation we do is carried out individually, with great care. In rare and special circumstances - such as for a mother and child - we may carry out a joint cremation. However, the family would need to specifically request this beforehand.
Being present for the cremation
If you would like, a small number of family members can be present to witness the moment the coffin is received into the committal room and introduced into the cremator. We kindly ask that this is arranged in advance with your funeral director.
Tributes and jewellery
Floral tributes cannot be placed inside the coffin. We also kindly advise that any jewellery be removed beforehand, as we’re unable to recover items once the coffin has been received by us from your funeral director.
After the cremation, we respectfully collect the remains. Any iron-containing metals or medical implants are removed and handled separately. Other metals are removed, we usually do this by burial in the crematorium grounds.
Religions that allow cremation
Cremation is accepted by many faiths, including Christian denominations, Sikhs, Hindus, Parsees, and Buddhists. However, it is not permitted in Orthodox Jewish or Muslim traditions.
Code of practice
At all times we follow the code of cremation practice from the Federation of Burial and Cremation Authorities.
