We have produced a plan with Hampshire County Council to help increase the number of trips made on foot or by cycle in Aldershot and Farnborough.

The local cycling and walking infrastructure plan (adopted in April 2023) sets out our recommendations for networks of walking zones and cycling routes, to make walking and cycling the natural choice for shorter journeys.

The plan shows the primary and secondary cycle routes across Rushmoor and a number of core walking zones. For each route/zone, the plan highlights key barriers to walking and cycling and suggests possible improvements.

We will use this plan to:

  • Show where our existing cycling and walking networks are and describe where we can improve
  • Help us to develop future cycling and walking networks across Rushmoor
  • Help us secure funding and/or section 106 planning application contributions, towards cycling and walking

How we developed the plan

We worked with Hampshire County Council and Sustrans to produce the local cycling and walking infrastructure plan. We held a number of stakeholder workshops in 2021 and 2022 and a public consultation in summer 2022.

Hampshire County Council, as the local highway authority, adopted the plan into its transport strategy for Rushmoor in March 2023.

Hampshire County Council will also use the plan to apply for funding to deliver cycling and walking infrastructure improvements across Aldershot and Farnborough.
