As part of a commitment to create clean, safe neighbourhoods, Rushmoor Borough Council will run a trial on two mornings in December to collect bulky waste items for free to help reduce fly-tipping and help those without transport to dispose of waste items.

A mobile van, dubbed Walk This Waste (previously called mega-skips) will be used during the trial on the mornings of Friday 6 December, from 7-1.30pm, and Saturday 7 December, from 7-11am, and will stop at five advertised points along Mayfield Road, in Farnborough so people can walk their bulky items to the van and have them removed.

Only bulky items such as bed bases, mattresses, carpets, furniture, household electricals such as fridges and freezers can be collected – a full list of bulky waste items is available on the Rushmoor Borough Council website, and only up to three items can be walked to the van.

This is a walk-up service only – vehicles cannot be driven to the van and then unloaded, as that will defeat the purpose, which is to help residents without a vehicle or access to the tip to dispose of bulky waste items.

The stops will be:

  1. Entrance to Austen Road
  2. Entrance to Totland Close
  3. Entrance to Ballantyne Road
  4. First car park in Caswell Close
  5. Car park opposite Wren Way

Proof of an address in the borough will need to be provided before the items can be disposed of.

No waste must be dumped along the route or at the stop locations before or after the trial. Enforcement officers will be on site and will take action, if required.

Times are subject to change if the vehicle fills up and needs to be emptied. Please check to see if the vehicle is at your chosen location before carrying your items to it.

Cabinet member for Neighbourhood Services, Councillor Becky Williams said: “We are absolutely committed to reducing fly-tipping in Rushmoor so we can clear up our borough and improve the quality of life for our residents.

“We want to enhance and create pride in our borough, and having clean, safe and vibrant neighbourhoods is a key part of that.

“We hope that everyone without access to a vehicle, who can walk their bulky items to the trial locations on Mayfield Road on those dates, will take advantage of this opportunity to dispose of their items for free, and have a good pre-Christmas clear-out.”
