An Aldershot landmark, which has stood proudly near Aldershot train station since 1999, will soon have a new home.

It was an early start for the team on Monday 31 October, as they moved the British field gun from its current home in Station Road.

The gun, which was originally repatriated from South Africa, has been temporarily removed, so that improvements to the road layout and forecourt at Aldershot train station can be made.

The gun is in safe hands, and after it has had some TLC, we plan to return it to a new home on the grassed area at the bottom of Gun Hill (subject to planning permission) so that it can be admired for years to come and also become part of Aldershot's heritage trails.

We are working with Hampshire County Council on the changes at Aldershot train station, which will introduce a new road layout and improve access for walkers, cyclists and vehicles.

Further information is available on our Aldershot railway station page.
