Rushmoor's new Mayor and Deputy Mayor have been chosen for the coming mayoral year.
Councillor Clive Grattan, who represents Farnborough’s Cherrywood ward, is the new Mayor of Rushmoor for the 2023/24 year and Councillor Mara Makunura, who represents Farnborough’s Knellwood ward, has been chosen as his deputy.
The appointments were unanimously approved at the Annual Council meeting held at the council offices.
Councillor Grattan has been a councillor for ten years and has served on the council’s Development Management Committee and a number of outside bodies including Hawley Community Garden, Farnborough British Legion, Cove Brook Greenaway Group, Rushmoor in Bloom and Age Concern. He was also a governor at Guillemont Junior School.
Proposer, Councillor Christine Guinness, said: “We know how much you have achieved for our residents and community - always putting them first with your hard work being involved with Prospect Estate Big Local and the Mayfield community Partnership - and all the other voluntary work that you do.
“Being Mayor can be extremely busy, but we know how great you will be in carrying out your role in an exemplary manner.”
Seconder, Councillor Diane Bedford, said: “I believe Clive will make an excellent Mayor, as he is a natural people person. He has a great sense of humour and is hard-working.”
Councillor Grattan said “I would like to thank Christine and Diane for their kind words and for the trust that members of the council have placed in me. It’s a great honour for me to take on this role.”
He has chosen two main charities for his mayoral year and will be raising funds for:
- Crohn’s and Colitis UK
-
Oak Farm Pre School
The new Mayor is also aiming to support events for Rushmoor’s international partner towns.
June Smith will be his Mayoress and David Betts has been appointed as Chaplain.
In accepting the position, Councillor Grattan extended his thanks to outgoing Mayor, Councillor John Marsh for the service he has given over the last year.
