With The Queen's Platinum Jubilee just two months away, residents of Aldershot and Farnborough are being reminded to get their applications into Rushmoor Borough Council if they want to hold a street party over the jubilee weekend.

The Platinum Jubilee weeks takes place from Thursday 2 June to Sunday 5 June, with special events planned all over the country.

With the whole nation getting involved, the council also hopes to see neighbourhoods across Rushmoor decked in bunting and communities joining in with the celebrations.

Andrew Colver, Head of Democracy and Community at Rushmoor Borough Council said: "After a difficult couple of years, it is fantastic that families, friends and neighbours will be able to come together to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee and raise a glass to Her Majesty The Queen."

He added: "We want to make it as easy as possible for residents to hold a street party and we have a simple application form on our website. If your party will need a temporary road closure, we are here to help and can let you know what's needed. Street parties are a great way to bring a sense of community to your local area. They don't need to be complicated and if you don't want to organise a big event, you could just hold a party in your garden or driveway - there are lots of ways to get involved."

Further information and an application form is available on our street parties page.

The closing date for street party applications is Monday 11 April.

There is also lots of useful information available on the Platinum Jubilee website.

One of the other local highlights will be a jubilee beacon lighting at the Wellington Statue, Aldershot on Thursday 2 June. The beacon is one of more than 1,500 being lit across the country and abroad in recognition of The Queen's long and selfless service.
