The mayor opened a peace garden in Manor Park, Aldershot by the Heroes' Shrine on Thursday 8 November, to mark the centenary of Armistice.

The opening included poem readings by 1st Aldershot Guides and 14th Aldershot Scouts and our special #RushmoorRemembers decorated pebbles.

First World War vigil

On Saturday 10 November, we joined together with the Aldershot branch of the Royal British Legion to organise an overnight vigil.

It was held at the cenotaph in Municipal Gardens, Aldershot.

The cenotaph was staffed throughout the night and poems and pieces of prose were read out on the hour and half hour.

Services of remembrance

There were a number of civic and military services that took place on the morning of Sunday 11 November to mark Remembrance Sunday.

In commemoration and remembrance of the end of the First World War and the many millions who were killed or came home dreadfully wounded, 1,000 Beacons of Light were lit throughout the United Kingdom - a century after the guns fell silent. We organised to be part of this beacon lighting with the Aldershot Garrison.
