Purchase complete on Voyager House

Rushmoor Borough Council has today completed the purchase of Voyager House in Apollo Rise, Southwood to enable a new healthcare facility to be provided in Farnborough.

The council has been working with NHS North East Hampshire and Farnham Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) to bring about the new healthcare facility, which will provide a much needed new hub for health services and GP surgeries.

The CCG was successful in obtaining planning permission for a change of use of the building last November. Now the purchase is complete, the council can procure the conversion works that will create a purpose built Centre for Health within the existing building, which will be leased to the CCG with an anticipated opening in Spring 2020.

Councillor Martin Tennant, Cabinet Member for Major Projects and Property at Rushmoor Borough Council said: "We are thrilled with the confirmation of the sale and it represents months of work behind the scenes."

Councillor Tennant added: "The purchase will enable us to work with our partners at the CCG to bring forward a fantastic and much needed new integrated healthcare centre for the people of Farnborough."

Dr Peter Bibawy, Clinical Chair of North East Hampshire and Farnham CCG, said: "This represents a major step forward in our plans to improve healthcare services for the people of Farnborough. We are extremely grateful to our partners at Rushmoor Borough Council for their support and hard work which has helped to get us to this point.

"We are committed to continuing to work closely with the local community and we hope that the people of Farnborough will help shape these facilities to make the most positive changes to local people's experience of health care."

The council had originally started the process to compulsorily purchase the building and a public inquiry is due to take place on Tuesday 26 March.

The hearing will still go ahead, and the purchase will be reported to the Planning Inspectorate as part of the inquiry.
