Recycling and rubbish survey

Our consultation has now ended to give your views on recycling and rubbish collections in Rushmoor.

Thanks to everyone who filled in our survey. We are looking over the results and your comments.

About the survey

We changed our bin collection service at short notice in March because of the coronavirus outbreak. This meant that we moved to fortnightly collections for both your rubbish and your recycling.

This unexpected change has given us the chance to think about our future recycling and rubbish collections.

Weekly food waste collections

One the things we must do is to introduce a weekly food collection, as by April 2023, the government has said that all councils must have brought in food waste collections to help increase recycling and reduce our carbon footprint.

We also know that 40% of the rubbish (by weight) that goes into our green wheelie bins is food waste.

So we took the opportunity to ask you for your views on bringing in a food waste collection and how you think this could best be done.

Increasing recycling

We've noticed that the amount that households are recycling has increased by around 25% and rubbish reduced by about 8% in the first couple of months, compared with the same time last year.

We also explored in the survey how we can build on this - to continue to increase recycling and reduce further the amount of rubbish that is thrown away in the green bins.
