Crafty Culture: make a mandala

Discover over 100 crocheted mandalas on the Princes Gardens bandstand from 10 August.

Craft culture - make a mandala A borough-wide crochet project has brought Rushmoor residents together to create over one hundred beautiful mandalas which are currently on display at Aldershot's Princes Gardens' bandstand.

The installation celebrates creativity and local community, bringing colour and vibrancy into the town centre. The mandalas are circular figures that represent the universe in Hindu and Buddhist symbolism.

The Crafty Culture: make a mandala project, was set up to encourage people feeling isolated to take part in a community-wide arts project with others. The project is a collaboration between the West End Centre, local artists Barbara Touati-Evans and Gemma MacLennan and is funded by Rushmoor Borough Council.

Crafty Culture workshops

Make a Mandala is part of a larger project that the West End Centre is re-launching in September called simply 'Crafty Culture'. It's a weekly group for people from all backgrounds and cultures to craft together in free workshops. The West End Centre has been running this group for many years, and it is aimed at anyone from the local area whose mental health and wellbeing would benefit from a free drop-in craft session, or who are interested in meeting others from different cultural backgrounds.
