Rushmoor Borough Council joins nation in mourning death of the Duke of Edinburgh

The Mayor of Rushmoor, Councillor Charles Choudhary, has expressed deep sadness on behalf of Rushmoor Borough Council and the people of Aldershot and Farnborough at the news of the death of His Royal Highness, The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.

His late Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh

As a mark of respect, the council has lowered the Union flags to half-mast outside the Council Offices in Farnborough and at the Princes Hall and Princes Gardens, Aldershot. They will remain at half-mast until the day after the funeral.

The council understands that many residents will want to offer their own thoughts and sympathies at this time of national mourning. There is now a book of condolence open on the Royal Family website, where residents can send a message of condolence, a selection of which will be passed onto the Royal Family and may be held in the Royal Archives for posterity.

In addition, the Mayor will be sending a letter of condolence on behalf of the borough to the private secretary to the Duke of Edinburgh.

Understandably, this is period of solemnity and reflection and therefore the council will hold a two-minute silence on the day of the funeral.

The Mayor said: "On behalf of Rushmoor Borough Council and the people of Aldershot and Farnborough, I would like to express our deep sadness at the news of the death of Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh.

"Our thoughts and heartfelt sympathies at this time are with the Queen, the Royal Family and those closest to Prince Philip, who has served this country so admirably for more than 69 years."
