Coronavirus - Leader appeals for residents to protect loved ones

With coronavirus spreading far faster in Aldershot and Farnborough than in many other places, the Leader of Rushmoor Borough Council has appealed for residents to follow the Tier 4 rules and stay at home over the holidays.

Parts of Rushmoor now have seriously high infection rates of more than 1,000 per 100,000 people and as a whole, the borough's infection rate of 667 per 100,000 people is well above the national rate of 378.6 per 100,000.

In the last week alone, cases have increased locally by nearly 75% and the trust which runs Frimley Park Hospital has also seen a rise of 128% in hospital admissions.

Councillor David Clifford, Leader of Rushmoor Borough Council, said: "We know that this is so tough for many people - and it has been such a hard year - but we need to pull together, now more than ever, to protect our loved ones and each other.

"It's important to recognise that around one in three people with coronavirus don't have any symptoms - so you may feel fine, but you could be spreading the virus to someone you love and making them seriously ill without realising it.

"So over the holidays and particularly at New Year, we are appealing to each and every one of our residents to do their bit - please stay at home and do not mix with people you do not live with. And if you are in any doubt what to do, act like you have the virus and do the right thing by your friends and family so they will be there to share future Christmases and New Years with you."
