Strumming Santas - ukulele world record attempt in Aldershot town centre

Local musicians are being invited to take part in a special world record attempt on Saturday 30 November as part of the Aldershot Community Christmas Festival.

The Christmas festival in Aldershot town centre is being organised by Rushmoor Borough Council and volunteers from the Aldershot Community Together Group.

As part of the day, organisers are hoping to set a world record for 'The most ukulele players wearing Santa hats for ten consecutive songs' and they need your help!

Ukulele players of all skill levels are invited to join the record attempt, which will be officially started at midday in Union Street by the Mayor of Rushmoor, Councillor Sue Carter.

The event will also raise money for Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice Care. Volunteers will be collecting donations in buckets on the day and a Just Giving donation page has also been set up.

As well as the record attempt, a full day of festive fun is planned, including ukulele bands on the stage throughout the day, craft and community stalls, free face painting, free children's crafts, stilt walkers, an inflatable snow globe, a children's farm, plus Aldershot Rotary Club's Christmas float, Karuna coffee, children's rides, refreshments, sweet treats and much more!

The ukulele activities are being led by local volunteers Malcolm Hobbs and Heidi Haversham.

Malcolm explained: "We want as many people as possible to come along and take part in this fun event. So, if you're an expert or just a beginner on the ukulele, it's time to don your Santa hat and get plucking, ready for the world record attempt!"

Malcolm added: "The sheet music for the ten consecutive songs is available from the Rushmoor Borough Council website for anyone who wants to practise before hand, but we'll have plenty of printed copies on the day. We also hope to see lots of people at our special rehearsal session at the Princes Hall from 7pm on Thursday 28 November at the Princes Hall."
