Local people and businesses help shape new vision for Aldershot and Farnborough

Local people and businesses have helped shape a new long-term vision that sets out the Aldershot and Farnborough they would like to see by 2030.

The vision, Your future, your place - a vision for Aldershot and Farnborough 2030, was developed by Rushmoor Borough Council, following widespread consultation and engagement with residents, businesses, councillors and local organisations earlier this year.

Aimed at finding out how they would like to see Aldershot and Farnborough by 2030 and about what really matters to them about the place they live, work and do business, the consultation and engagement attracted more than 1,100 responses.

Of particular importance were regenerating and improving the town centres and making sure everyone has the chance to get a high-quality education and access to skilled jobs.

Those taking part also wanted the council to put more emphasis on green living and environmental issues, to tackle community safety issues and to communicate more with them.

Taking on board the responses, the council has now published the vision, which was approved by a full meeting of the council on Thursday (25) on the recommendation of the Cabinet.

Councillor David Clifford, Leader of Rushmoor Borough Council, said: "We all care about the future of Aldershot and Farnborough and want our towns to be places where people not only want - but choose - to live, work and do business.

"We had a fantastic response to the engagement and consultation, which highlighted for us that people share our strong belief in our place and in wanting it to achieve its potential - thanks to everyone who got involved!

"The vision is unashamedly ambitious and rightly so.  We recognise we can't do it on our own, though, so we will be involving our partners in helping to realise it. "

'Your future, your place - a vision for Aldershot and Farnborough 2030' sets out six major ambitions for the future of Aldershot and Farnborough, identified as being the most important for the place, its residents and its businesses:

  • Vibrant and distinctive town centres
  • Housing for every stage of life
  • Strong communities, proud of our area
  • Healthy and green lifestyles
  • A growing local economy - kind to the environment
  • Opportunities for everyone - quality education and a skilled local workforce

Each ambition also includes details of the things agreed as being key to realising the 2030 vision.

Alongside the vision, and also approved on Thursday night, was the council's new business plan for the period up to 2022, which includes details of how it will deliver its part of the vision.

Both documents are available on the Your future, your place - a vision for Aldershot and Farnborough 2030 and council plan pages on our website.
