Council moves on solution to Invincible Road traffic problems

Rushmoor Borough Council, in partnership with Hampshire County Council, has moved to sort out traffic delays in and around the Invincible Road area of Farnborough, with plans to build a new access road.

Members of the Development Management Committee approved plans submitted by the council to construct a new road junction linking Invincible Road with Elles Road.

The new road link and junction will ease traffic congestion and queuing on Solartron Road, and at the junction of Invincible Road and Solartron Road, by providing an alternative exit and entrance to the industrial estate. Traffic delays are common over bank holiday weekends and during the lead-up to Christmas. Work is due to start in in the summer and be completed by the autumn.

The plans will see the introduction of a new route from Elles Road through part of the current Magnet car park linking to the existing Invincible Road. This would include a new pedestrian cycle path.

The Magnet and Tancia industrial units would keep their service bays and on-site parking through the reconfiguration of the current site.

Elles Road will be reduced to a single lane only for through traffic, with the current nearside lane converted into a deceleration or acceleration slip lane to serve the new junction.

Councillor Martin Tennant, Rushmoor Borough Council's Cabinet member for Major Projects and Property, said: "Traffic around this area and the road leading onto the industrial estate have been an issue for some time. This is a well-thought out scheme which should improve the traffic flow in the area and reduce the amount of congestion."
