Thousands attend Rushmoor Fireworks Spectacular

More than 12,000 people headed to Manor Park in Aldershot to enjoy a stunning display set to music for the Rushmoor Fireworks Spectacular.

The event on October 27, organised by Rushmoor Borough Council, was free again this year, thanks to the generous support of new event partners Millgrove Construction and the Careys Foundation.

Eagle Radio DJ Kim Robson entertained the crowd and started the big countdown at 7.30pm. The display lasted for 20 minutes with a barrage of colourful fireworks performed to music including chart hits by George Ezra and a staggering finale to 'This is Me' from The Greatest Showman.

Visitors were also able to enjoy all the thrills and spills of the funfair including bumper cars, a ghost train, trampolines, side stalls and food vendors.

Volunteers from the Rotary Club of Rushmoor sold glow sticks and light up wands to raise money for local charities. Volunteers from Aldershot Communities Together helped with the safe flow of people into the park for the evening.

Liz Corps, Rushmoor Borough Council's Cabinet Champion for Events and Civic Pride, said: "We'd like to thank everyone for making the event another huge success. The weather was kind to us, so conditions were perfect for the sparkling fireworks extravaganza which went off with a bang!"

Councillor Corps added: "It was wonderful to see families and friends of all ages out enjoying this annual event again. Visiting large, organised displays make sense, given the reported level of accidents at private displays.

"We would particularly like to thank our event partners, the Careys Foundation and Millgrove Construction who helped us to make it a free event this year."

Siobhan Carey, the Careys Foundation Manager, said: "It's been our pleasure to be involved in this year's firework's event with Rushmoor Borough Council. It is great to see so much community support and spirit for a fantastic fireworks display. Careys Foundation is proud to have played its part in supporting such a worthwhile local event."

Emma Foote, Director at Millgrove Construction said: "We thought Saturday was a great night for Aldershot! The turnout was fantastic and we were proud to see so many members of the community attending. We hope everyone had an enjoyable evening."
