Christmas arrives in Aldershot town centre

Christmas will officially arrive in Aldershot on Saturday 17 November, with an afternoon of festive fun in the town centre organised by Rushmoor Borough Council.

This year's free extravaganza is a jam-packed day of festive fun for the whole family, ahead of the main event at 4.45pm, when the lights will be switched on, with special guests Father Christmas and the stars of Princes Hall's pantomime, Beauty and the Beast!

Festivities take place from midday including live music, fairground rides, a children's petting farm, walkabout characters, dance performances, free face-painting, circus skills, free Christmas craft activities, the Little Dallas Donkeys and a free Santa's grotto from 3.30pm to 4.30pm.

Entertainment will centre around the stage on Wellington Street until 5.30pm, which will feature performances from The Fever, Jim Hammond, Kew Dance Academy, Redz Performing Academy, Paris School of Dance, YEM Theatre School, plus local favourites The Dolomites and the X Factor's Jack Mason.

The Alder Valley Brass Brand and Cactus Brass Band will be entertaining shoppers with traditional festive music and Aldershot Lions will be there with hot chocolate to raise funds for local community projects.

Councillor Liz Corps, Events and Civic Pride Cabinet Champion at Rushmoor Borough Council, said: "The Christmas lights switch-on marks the start of the festive season and we always have a great turnout, with some fantastic free activities on offer."

Councillor Corps added: "We have lots of free events taking place in the town centre all over Christmas.  Look out for the Aldershot Community Christmas Festival and Craft Fayre on Saturday 8 December, Aldershot Nativity Live! on Saturday 15 December and Carols in the Bandstand on Saturday 22 December."
