New look for shop fronts in Aldershot town centre

Thirteen shop fronts in Aldershot town centre have been given a new look as part of Rushmoor Borough Council's shop front improvement scheme.

Eleven shop units in Upper Union Street and Grosvenor Road have been transformed with traditional style hardwood frontages, authentic colours and Victorian features such as decorative pilasters, awnings and lighting. Bi-fold windows have also been added to some of the café units, so that businesses can open up into the street over the summer months.

One of the beneficiaries is She She's continental sandwich bar in Grosvenor Road.

The work has been funded by the Enterprise M3 Local Enterprise Partnership and represents more than £100,000 of investment in the town centre.

Councillor David Clifford, Leader of Rushmoor Borough Council said: "The new and improved shop fronts have really lifted this area of the town centre and given a fresh new look to several independent businesses and improved links between Westgate and the town centre."

Finishing touches are now being made to a further two shop units in Wellington Street, The Dressing Up Shop and the Gorge café.

Councillor Maurice Sheehan, Chairman of the Aldershot Town Centre Task Force added: "The aim of the scheme was to encourage retailers and landlords to enhance their shop fronts, windows and signage in a traditional and sympathetic manner in keeping with the Victoria character of the town centre. We are really impressed with the quality and impact of the finished shop fronts and we hope other landlords and businesses are inspired to make improvement to their premises."
