Emergency support for rough sleepers

With this week's freezing temperatures, Rushmoor Borough Council has been providing emergency accommodation for rough sleepers across Aldershot and Farnborough.

The council provides extra emergency bed and breakfast accommodation to vulnerable people sleeping on the streets when temperatures drop below freezing for more than three consecutive nights.

Five people from across the area are currently in emergency accommodation.

The special cold weather arrangements are in addition to the work the council is already doing with local agencies and charities to help people off the streets.  This includes the nine-bedroom North Lane Lodge in Aldershot, which supports people with complex needs and is run on the council's behalf by the Society of St James.

The council is also urging anyone who is concerned about someone that they know is sleeping rough to report it to us through our Report a rough sleeper form or through the national StreetLink website, so that people facing winter on the streets connect to local support and services they need.

Concerned members of the public, can also get in touch using the contact details on this page.

Councillor Barbara Hurst, Cabinet Member for Health and Housing at Rushmoor Borough Council, said: "No one should ever have to sleep rough in Rushmoor, but if you do know of someone facing the next few nights on the streets, we would ask you to report it to us as soon as possible, so that we can reach out to them and help them to access local support and make sure they have somewhere warm and safe to stay."

"If you would like to support people who are sleeping on the streets, we would also encourage you to donate to local charities to help support their work."

There are a number of local organisations and charities, which work in partnership with the council to support the homeless. These include:

Further information about the support available to people facing homelessness or sleeping rough is available on our Homelessness and urgent housing need page.
