Aldershot railway station
We are working with the rail and bus operators as well as Hampshire County Council to improve Aldershot railway station.
About the railway station site
Aldershot railway station is in need of improvement to help support the transformation of the town centre. We have identified the site as a priority in the Rushmoor Local Plan and in the Aldershot town centre prospectus [11Mb].
There are two linked elements to the scheme:
Highway improvements to the road network
This will include:
- Converting the Station Road/Arthur Street teardrop roundabout to a priority junction allowing two-way traffic movements
- Installing a tiger crossing just west of the train station access. This will give cyclists using the off-road cycle route priority travelling to and from the station. It will also provide a level surface and widened footways to improve access to the station for those not getting there by car
- The southern section of Arthur Street, which will become to two-way from Station Road to its junction with Windsor Way
- Windsor Way from the Victoria Road junction to Arthur Street, which will become two-way
- A new cycle route from the A323 to Aldershot railway station. The route will be on-road from the A323 through Pickford Street
The railway station forecourt scheme
This will:
- Create an improved public transport interchange in the forecourt area of the train station
- Improve pedestrian links into the town centre
You can find more details about the scheme on the improving access to Aldershot railway station page on Hampshire County Council's website.
External funding for regeneration
We were successful in securing £900,000 of government grant funding from the Enterprise M3 LEP to help with development costs.
