About VE Day

Victory in Europe (VE) Day on 8 May 1945 marked the end of six years of war in Europe during the Second World War.

On that date 75 years ago, towns and cities across the world marked the victory with street parties, dancing and singing.

Both of our towns of Aldershot and Farnborough played an important role in the effort to defend our freedom.

Messages of history and hope

On VE Day 75 we posted on social media a number of messages to commemorate VE Day, these included Aldershot's Garrison Commander, the Mayor of Rushmoor and the Leader of the Council.

Please visit our VE Day 75 playlist on YouTube to watch the messages.

Stories from Aldershot in May 1945

In our 'Voices from Aldershot's homefront' project, actors from Torchlight Heritage recreated emotions on the lead-up to VE Day in 1945, the anticipation of victory, celebrations following the announcement and thoughts for the future.

You can watch these short films on the Princes Hall YouTube channel.
