Oberursel

Situated near to the modern city of Frankfurt, Oberursel dates back to the 15th century. It has been Rushmoor's German twin town since 1989.

There are many active clubs and societies who are keen to make links with their Rushmoor counterparts.

Oberursel is situated just a few miles north-west of Frankfurt. To the north of the town lie the Taunus Mountains, a very popular spot for rambling and hiking, with the magnificent mountain scenery forming a picturesque backdrop for the charming 15th Century timber-framed buildings in Oberursel's town centre, its roots going back even further for over 1200 years. To the south east lie the bright lights of Frankfurt, with its sporting, cultural and entertainment venues.

Oberursel itself is slightly larger than Rushmoor and as it has about half our population it gives the impression of being significantly more rural in character. Like Meudon, the administrative area was formed by the joining of five smaller communities, each of which still retains its individual charm. In addition to Oberursel there are the villages of Bommersheim, Oberstedten, Stierstadt and Weisskirchen.

The majority of the residents of Oberursel work in service industries, but there are quite a lot of small industrial plants in the area; however many of the population commute on a daily basis to nearby Frankfurt.

The town of Oberursel has a very active social, sporting and club life, with something to suit everyone. Whenever you visit Oberursel, whether in the winter to enjoy the idyllic Christmas card views, or during one of their many festivals - particularly the Brunnenfest or Fountain Festival - there is no doubt you will be assured of the warmest of welcomes.
