We will fine people who drop litter.
Environmental Enforcement Officers are out in Aldershot and Farnborough, issuing fixed penalty notices of £75 for littering if they believe an offence has been committed. Littering includes chewing gum, cigarette butts and packaging.
If one of these officers sees you dropping litter, they will approach you, fine you and explain the offence. During this conversation, video recording equipment will be used.

Payment of the fine discharges your liability for the offence and we won't take any further action.
If you don't pay after we send you a final reminder letter, we will start prosecution proceedings in the magistrates court for the offence, which carries a criminal conviction and a penalty up to £2,500.
We will also look to recover our costs associated with the prosecution.

Our responsibilities
The enforcement action is covered by the Environmental Protection Act and there is no requirement for us to put up warning signs or notices about it being an offence to drop litter.
