Get involved to make Victoria Day the biggest and best yet!
One of the biggest events in Aldershot's calendar, Victoria Day, will be back on Saturday 10 June.
Rushmoor Borough Council is again working with a group of enthusiastic volunteers and Aldershot residents to organise the event, which promises live music, street entertainment, family activities and stalls to browse from 10am to 5pm.
The highlight of the day is the grand parade, which sets off at 11am outside the Princes Hall and will see marching bands, community groups, schools, businesses and residents making their way through the town centre.
Victoria Day is usually a biennial event, but thanks to the efforts of the residents group - who are helping with everything from promoting the event and encouraging local schools to join the parade, to marshalling the parade route - the event will be repeated this summer.
Victoria Day celebrates Aldershot's close ties with Queen Victoria as well as the town's heritage as the home of the British army. The day also features music in the Princes Gardens community bandstand, children's fairground rides, a classic car show and more. This year's event is being sponsored by Grainger Plc and Specsavers.
Community groups, schools and clubs have been invited to get involved and the council has extended its deadline to Friday 21 April to encourage more people to sign-up.
Aldershot resident and group member Ted Stevens said: "We're hoping that the community will really come together to support Victoria Day again this year, we thought nothing could top last year's parade - but this year's is already shaping up to be bigger and better than ever!"
Ted added: "There are so many ways to get involved, even if you can only take a few posters or spread-the-word about the event among friends and family, help on the day with marshalling, and of course, line the parade route on the day waving flags!"
Anyone who would like to run a stall, join the parade, or perform in the bandstand should go to our Victoria Day 2017 web page to pledge their support. There is also a Victoria Day page on Facebook.
