Princes Hall

We are exploring the opportunity to redevelop or refurbish the Princes Hall in Aldershot.

Our regeneration plans for the Princes Hall

We think there is potential to invest in the Princes Hall building and refurbish it.

The pdf icon Aldershot town centre prospectus [11Mb] suggests an opportunity to extend Princes Hall at the front, to provide a stronger relationship with Princes Gardens and the Westgate Leisure Park.

A single-storey front development could establish active frontage and a 'front door' to the street, leading to the box office. Steps would be re-provided leading up from Princes Way, with an accessible ramp from Westgate.

A new first-floor terrace would provide space for events and ceremonies overlooking Princes Gardens and a cafe could be incorporated at ground or first floor.

Although there are currently no plans for the police station or magistrates' court to close, if they were to be re-located, this could potentially release the site for residential redevelopment.

Princes Hall

What's happened so far

  • January 2016 - we adopt the pdf icon Aldershot town centre prospectus [11Mb]. This highlights the opportunity for redevelopment of the site following the potential closure of the police station
  • Spring 2016 - Hampshire Constabulary confirms that there are no current plans to close Aldershot police station. We therefore put on hold plans to explore redevelopment opportunities for the site

Next steps in the regeneration of the Princes Hall

Although there is no opportunity to redevelop the whole site at the moment, we will consider options for the redevelopment or refurbishment of the Princes Hall over the coming months.

About the Princes Hall site

The Princes Hall, police station and magistrates' court were part of a suite of civic buildings  developed in the early1970s.

Although tentative plans to close the police station as part of a wider strategy for policing were not pursued, all three buildings are dated and any opportunity to relocate or update the facilities will be considered. The Princes Hall in particular, is an important part of Aldershot's community and cultural life.
