Redress scheme for letting and management agents

Who tenants and landlords can complain to if they are not happy with the service that they receive from letting and management agents.

Letting agents and property managers must belong to one of three government-approved redress schemes following the introduction of an order in 2014.

The order gives tenants and landlords the chance to complain to an independent person if they are unhappy with the service that they receive.

Councils are responsible for making sure that letting and management agents are members of one of the approved schemes, if they are not they can be fined up to £5,000.

This came into effect when the Redress Schemes for Lettings Agency Work and Property Management Work (Requirement to Belong to a Scheme etc.) (England) Order 2014 became law on 1 October 2014.
